4 Tips For Removing Red Wine From Carpet

Once the holidays are over, you might wonder why you bothered to clean BEFORE the office festivities.  Because now you’re left with a sizeable mess to clean up and some of those messes can be difficult.  Like red wine stains on carpet.

Using soap and water isn’t enough, and some cleaners only seem to drive stains deeper.  Here are a few tips for cleaning wine from your carpet:

1. Start with lots of paper towel.

Absorb as much of the wine as possible.  Gently dab at the stain, never rub.  Bunch up several sheets and stand on it. This is a great way to absorb the liquid.

2. Spray water on the area and continue dabbing

with clean paper towel to absorb as much stain as possible.  Keep doing this until the toweling comes up clean.

3. Make a paste using 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water.

Apply the mixture to the stain. Allow it to dry completely, then vacuum.  You can repeat this until you are happy with the results.

4. If some stain remains, use carpet stain remover

and follow directions carefully. There are many “oxi” products on the market that can be used on carpeting.

It’s always a good idea to keep baking soda and an oxi product on hand for stain removal. You never know when an accident will happen.

You can also pre-treat laundry to remove grass, coffee, grape juice, and other stubborn stains.  If you have a steamer, by all means use it. Steamers work great on stains.
